Reclaimed elm is a unique salvaged wood with a rich historical backstory. Sourced from old farmhouses and abandoned buildings in Northern China, this vintage timber is repurposed into handcrafted furniture, embracing its natural imperfections as part of the design process.
Aged by time and the elements, some reclaimed elm originates from old windowsills that have been exposed to the exterior for 60–80 years in dry environments. Unlike timber salvaged from doors or constructions, this wood develops distinct characteristics formed by dust, rain, and human touch. Over time, this exposure creates a patina that is warm, smooth, and full of depth, offering an unparalleled hand-feel.
By nature, reclaimed elm features artistic cracks, textured divots, and irregularities that contribute to the unique aesthetic of Uniqwa designs. These attributes are celebrated as an integral part of the material’s character, reflecting its journey and authenticity. The soft brown wood holds its shape well over time; however, it is not suitable for full outdoor exposure.
