Introducing

Uniqwa Finishing Studio

In-house Finishing Studio

Uniqwa provides a complete service for creating timeless pieces of furniture. Every piece is expertly crafted and handled with the utmost care, from leaving our production facilities to arriving at our Gold Coast-based finishing studio, where it is inspected and given its final touches – like sanding or painting – transforming each item into an exquisite masterpiece ready for your home.

We understand the importance of a furniture piece reflecting its innate, unique beauty. Many of our timber pieces arrive unfinished, allowing our Finishing Studio to perfect them using high-end sanding and finishing techniques. Each piece is thoroughly examined, and the correct sanding technique is chosen to enhance a natural raw finish that showcases the perfect beauty of the timber.

Staining

If you are looking to enhance the natural grain and colour of a timber furniture piece, our team can stain your furniture item.

Staining furniture, unlike painting, will bring out the timber's beauty while maintaining the grain's visuals. With a lacquer topcoat on the staining, the timber surface will also be protected from wear and tear and help preserve the piece for years to come.

Stain is absorbed into the timber fibres, giving the furniture a more uniform appearance and highlighting its natural beauty. Different stains can produce different shades, ranging from light, natural tones to darker hues, allowing for a wide range of colour options to suit personal tastes.

The process typically involves cleaning the surface, sanding it to a smooth finish, applying the stain evenly with a brush, cloth, or sprayer, depending on the item and then wiping away to leave a thin, even layer. After the stain has dried, a clear topcoat is added to provide additional protection and durability. Staining furniture can refresh an old piece or give a new look to an old item.

Painting

At Uniqwa, our pieces are crafted with the utmost precision and detail for a distinctively natural raw look.

Many of our timber pieces arrive unfinished, allowing our Finishing Studio team to apply preferred high-quality finishes, such as paint, lacquer, and protective finishes, with meticulous detail to each one.

Our in-house paint studio allows our clients to choose their own colour selection to customise a wide range of Uniqwa pieces to take natural furniture pieces to the next level.

Combining our client's favourite pieces with their preferred choice of colour palette allows for endless creativity, transforming what was once a beautifully raw, natural piece into a design statement of any colour. Our clients have the ability to create unique statement pieces with endless possibilities that perfectly suit each of their individual projects.

Let your imagination run wild: explore endless possibilities through creative combinations!

Bleaching

Our professional bleaching service is ideal for those who want to remove the rich warm tones from their new furniture pieces. Our bleaching process will remove the red tones and lighten even the darkest timber, revealing its true beauty.

Our system is a safe and effective, VOC-free, 2- component wood bleaching system. The two parts are both naturally occurring, bio-degradable oxidisers and can be used to remove the natural colour from any bare wood to achieve the desired results.

Our process involves applying bleach solutions specifically tailored for working on timber fibres to break down any pigments present, followed by neutralisation, rinsing, and drying steps. The concluding treatment is sanding and sealing, preserving each piece's exquisite look for lasting results you'll love.

Our professional bleaching service can also help you lighten any items that have become discoloured due to wear and tear.

Whether you're looking to achieve a lighter appearance or refresh faded or stained pieces, our experience in bleaching services ensures we can remain true to each piece's natural beauty.

Let us help you transform your new furniture pieces and achieve the stunning light soft look you desire. We'll work with you to achieve the lightness or colouration you desire for a stunning transformation, revealing a timber piece's natural beauty.

Nature of Timber

Natural Elements

We favour bringing nature and natural elements into our designs. Many of our unique timber pieces are hand-carved from whole tree trunks; this means that the timber used in these pieces still acts like it's alive and will continue to adjust just as it would in nature, having a beautiful organic aesthetic.

Timber furniture will naturally adjust over time due to changes in temperature and humidity. As the environment around the furniture changes, the moisture content of the timber will also change as it tries to become the same as the environment around it, causing it to expand or contract. This can result in changes in the shape or size of the furniture, as well as cracks or warping.

Using entire tree trunks reduces waste, making the manufacturing process more sustainable. The method of hand-carving ensures that each piece is one-of-a-kind and showcases the natural beauty of the timber.
