The Palm Beach Coffee Table is a unique piece of hand-crafted artistry made from reclaimed marine teak salvaged from old fishing boats.

Renowned for its durability and hardiness, the hand-selected reclaimed teak showcases the beauty of its history through natural cracks, distinctive knots, and unique markings. The teak is sourced from fishing boats once navigated by Sulawesi fishermen across remote Indonesian islands. These teak boats, known for their exceptional hardness and resistance to harsh southern ocean conditions, have been in service for up to 50 years before being retired.

Pair the Palm Beach Table Top with a variety of Coffee, Dining and Bar Table Bases to create your ideal look. Available in an oval and rectangular table top.

Given the nature of reclaimed wood, the planks may be somewhat uneven and can develop small cracks, cups, or bows over time due to changes in temperature or humidity in your home environment. However, with proper care and such as a thin layer of beeswax brushed over the top once or twice a year, the beauty of this table can be enhanced and preserved for a lifetime.

The reclaimed teak features distinctive nicks, splits, cracks, knots, nail holes, patches, and other marks that tell the story of its origin. As an artisan-crafted piece, variations and imperfections are inherent, adding to its unique charm. No two tables are exactly alike, ensuring each piece is an original work of art.

Powder-coated irons can be an excellent choice for undercover outdoor spaces; specific considerations need to be made for coastal regions. While powder coating offers protection from corrosion, exposure to salty beach winds and rain can lead to deterioration and breakdown of the powder-coat, exposing the iron to corrosion.

Characteristics

Reclaimed boat timber features a rich history, marked by weathered textures, aged paint remnants, nail holes, and surface imperfections that showcase its previous life. Each piece is unique and offers an authentically rustic, layered appearance with a patina that continues to evolve over time.

Common Issues or Risks

Due to its porous and aged nature, reclaimed wood is sensitive to moisture and humidity changes. Excessive wetness can lead to swelling or splitting, while harsh cleaners may damage the original paint layers or finish. Direct sunlight and heat may cause fading, drying, or cracking. The weathered finish may be more susceptible to chipping under pressure.

Preventative Care

Place furniture away from direct sunlight and extreme heat sources. Use coasters, placemats, and soft pads to protect against spills, heat, and surface scratches. Maintain consistent indoor humidity levels to minimise movement or cracking in the wood. Apply a clear furniture wax or sealant occasionally, if desired, to enhance surface protection without compromising the original character.

Cleaning Instructions

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. For light cleaning, gently wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap solution, then dry thoroughly. Avoid over-wetting the surface, as reclaimed wood is naturally more absorbent.

Cautions / What to Avoid

Do not use abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals. Avoid dragging items across the surface to prevent chipping the aged finish. Do not leave the piece in environments with high humidity or direct sun. Handle with care, especially in areas with layered or delicate textures.
