The Malta Sofa is a bold, contemporary piece that combines generous proportions with the luxurious texture of premium full-grain aniline leather. With its solid, low-profile design and substantial armrests, this sofa makes a statement in any space. The Malta Sofa’s leather upholstery is tightly fitted, creating a refined and polished look that enhances its modern appeal.

Handcrafted for lasting quality, the frame is constructed with durable timber, while the seating is generously padded with high-density foam that provides firm support and long-lasting resilience. Over time, the foam will soften by approximately 30%, achieving a more relaxed and inviting comfort as the sofa adapts to regular use.

This product is made from premium full-grain aniline leather, renowned for its luxury appeal and suitability for boutique settings. Aniline leather is considered the finest quality and most natural-looking type of leather. Its strength, soft feel, and artistic textures showcase the unique irregularities on the hide’s surface, highlighting its distinct character.

Made from the topmost layer of the hide, the most durable and desirable part. This leather undergoes an aniline treatment using soluble dyes to preserve its natural grain, markings, scars, and wrinkles. This process ensures that the leather remains in its most natural, raw, and soft state, with no protective coating applied.

During the aniline dyeing process, the leather absorbs dye at varying rates, leading to high colour variation. The natural oils in the leather, combined with the aniline dye, subtly affect the final hue, making each hide one of a kind. Since no pigments or coatings are used, the leather absorbs spills quickly and has low stain resistance, requiring careful maintenance.

Only around 5% of full-grain leather hides are considered perfect enough for aniline treatment, further emphasizing its premium quality. Over time, this leather will develop a patina quickly, aging beautifully while remaining soft and supple due to the lack of additional processing or stiffening treatments.

Leather is a product of nature imbued with its own history and life, resulting in distinct and individual characteristics. Each piece will inevitably show unique, diverse signs of history and life.

Each skin will present both individual and natural characteristics, including different structures and discrepancies in colour. Scars, scratches, bites or rough spots aren't flaws, but a sign that your leather is natural and organic, therefore such markings are not considered faults but rather inherent features that showcase the organic nature of leather. We celebrate these unique qualities as they contribute to the authenticity of each piece.

Our collections are mostly individually hand-made pieces. As most of our products are made from natural materials, texture, colour, and pattern may vary from piece to piece. Reclaimed timbers, naturally weathered materials and off-cuts otherwise discarded are frequently part of Uniqwa design features.

Natural splitting, cracking, and loss of natural oils may occur and form part of the characteristics and beauty of Uniqwa products. These are not viewed as imperfections or faults but as part of timber's natural life and beauty.

We believe the result of using natural materials and hand-crafted elements is a testament to the unique qualities found in materials originating from nature.
