The Malta Aniline Leather Sofa is defined by generous proportions, a low profile and substantial upholstered arms. Its clean, grounded form is complemented by full-grain buffalo leather, selected for its natural grain, tonal variation and tactile character.

The leather is finished using an aniline dyeing process, preserving the natural markings and individual characteristics of each hide. With use, the surface will develop a distinctive patina, adding further depth and character over time.

High-density foam provides structured support and will soften by approximately 30% with regular use, allowing the seating to develop a more relaxed feel over time.

Seat Height: 45cm

Constructed from chipboard, treated pine rails and MDF Supawood with high-density foam cushioning. Upholstered in full-grain buffalo leather with an aniline finish.

As a natural full-grain leather, variations in colour, grain, scars, markings and texture are inherent to the material and form part of each piece's individual character. Aniline leather has no heavy protective surface coating and requires appropriate care to preserve its finish.

FULL-GRAIN ANILINE BUFFALO LEATHER

This product is upholstered in premium full-grain aniline buffalo leather, one of the most luxurious and authentic leathers available. Sourced from the strongest part of the hide, buffalo leather is naturally durable, distinguished by its rich grain and exceptional longevity.

The leather is finished using an aniline dyeing process, where soluble dyes penetrate the hide without covering its surface with pigments or protective coatings. This preserves the leather's natural grain, markings, wrinkles and subtle colour variation, ensuring every piece is unique.

Only a small percentage of premium hides are suitable for aniline finishing, making this one of the highest-quality leather constructions available. The absence of surface coatings allows the leather to remain exceptionally soft and supple while developing a rich patina through use. As with all aniline leathers, it is more susceptible to staining and should be cared for accordingly.

As a natural material, variations in grain, colour, healed scars and markings are inherent characteristics of genuine aniline buffalo leather and should be appreciated as part of its individuality rather than considered imperfections.

Leather is a product of nature imbued with its own history and life, resulting in distinct and individual characteristics. Each piece will inevitably show unique, diverse signs of history and life.

Each skin will present both individual and natural characteristics, including different structures and discrepancies in colour. Scars, scratches, bites or rough spots aren't flaws, but a sign that your leather is natural and organic; such markings are not considered faults but rather inherent features that showcase the organic nature of leather. We celebrate these unique qualities as they contribute to the authenticity of each piece.

Characteristics

Aniline leather is a premium, untreated hide dyed with soluble colour that preserves the leather's natural grain, texture, and markings. Soft and luxurious to the touch, it develops a rich patina and unique character over time.

Common Issues or Risks

Due to its porous nature and lack of surface coating, aniline leather is highly sensitive to moisture, oils, and UV exposure. Spills, body oils, and direct sunlight can cause staining, fading, or drying. Natural imperfections and tonal variation are to be expected and embraced.

Preventative Care

Keep furniture away from direct sunlight, heating vents, and air conditioners to prevent fading and cracking. Apply a high-quality leather protector formulated for aniline leather to help resist staining. Rotate cushions and seating positions regularly to promote even ageing and wear.

Cleaning Instructions

Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth or a lightly dampened cloth using distilled water only. Blot spills immediately without rubbing to avoid spreading moisture. Condition the leather every 3-6 months with a specialised leather conditioner to maintain softness and suppleness.

Cautions / What to Avoid

Avoid harsh cleaners, alcohol-based products, detergents, or abrasive cloths, all of which can damage the surface. Do not soak or scrub the leather. Protect from contact with skincare products, dark fabrics, and sharp objects to preserve its natural finish.
