DESCRIPTION

The Karoo Sofa range is a unique collection made from a very limited supply of salvaged antique Indonesian teak ploughs.

The aging process that reclaimed teak has gone through leaves a natural, organic look, feel and texture.

To create our unique Karoo collection, we repurpose a limited supply of water buffalo ploughs that have served the rice paddocks of Indonesia.

We exclusively salvage timber ploughs and reclaim them for their unique shape, making each Karoo Sofa as much of a beautiful seating option, as a historic piece of art.

SPECIFICATIONS

W 78cm | D 115cm | H 81cm

Quality 100% Olefin upholstery with a rub rate of 16,000

Using only traditional craftsmanship, the reclaimed teak is finished in a sun-grey tone.

The Karoo Sofa range comes standard with natural coloured outdoor fabric cushions; additional white or charcoal outdoor fabric covers are available for purchase.

When left exposed to the elements, over time, teak will age naturally into an elegant patina grey. We recommend always bringing the cushions inside whenever not in use for longevity.

The Karoo range is individually hand-made from reclaimed timber, with a distinctly unique shape; elements such as texture, colour and pattern will vary from piece to piece. The images shown online are representative of the supplied sofa. The shape of the Karoo Sofa's frame may vary pending on the shape of the individual ploughs.

RECLAIMED TIMBER

This piece is made from selectively salvaged reclaimed teak, which has naturally aged over decades of exposure to the elements.

The ageing process is reflected throughout each piece, presenting unique markings and diverse colour tones. These characteristics form part of the authenticity and beauty of reclaimed teak.

The natural tendency for teak is to patina beautifully into a silvery-grey look, which develops over time in natural conditions, including sunlight and ambient moisture.

Over time, natural splitting, cracking, and loss of natural oils may occur and form part of the characteristics and beauty of this product. These are not viewed as imperfections or faults, but rather part of the natural life and beauty of timber.

TEAK LEACHING

As with any natural material, existing fluids and moisture can leach over time. A natural process of teak involves oil moving to the surface of the teak.

This natural process of teak oil leaching can cause staining; this can be especially evident if the furniture pieces are experiencing exposure to weather elements, particularly rain.

We do not recommend placing this natural timber piece directly onto carpets or rugs. Moisture will generally seep through the ends of the timber. If placing it onto carpets or rugs, markings may be avoided by using a protective liner such as thick plastic.

None of the above is viewed as a fault; we embrace these changes as the natural characteristics and beauty of timber furniture.

MOULD ON FURNITURE

Humidity causes mould to grow. Limited airflow and moisture create a microclimate for mould to develop. In some cases, mould will begin growing on furniture, clothing and other contents within the home.
In instances when this occurs, it is not an inherent fault of the furniture, clothing and other contents; rather, humidity or dampness in the air can supply enough moisture for mould growth on any surface. Mould can occur anywhere, and humid climates provide the optimal conditions for the fungi to grow and thrive on any surface.

NATURAL MATERIALS

Every Uniqwa piece has a story…

Our collections are mostly individually hand-made pieces. As most of our products are made from natural materials, texture, colour, and pattern may vary from piece to piece. Reclaimed timbers, naturally weathered materials and off-cuts otherwise discarded are frequently part of Uniqwa design features.

Natural splitting, cracking, and loss of natural oils may occur and form part of the characteristics and beauty of Uniqwa products. These are not viewed as imperfections or faults but as part of timber's natural life and beauty.

We believe the result of using natural materials and hand-crafted elements is a testament to the unique qualities found in materials originating from nature.

As every monitor displays different colour tones, the colour of pictures on our website and social media cannot be taken as a true colour indication of the actual products. Some product tones may appear to vary from catalogue or website images.

Premium Australian Outdoor Furniture Covers

We recommend always using protective covers when outdoor furniture is not in use. Exposure to sun, rain, wind, and dust can accelerate wear, impacting both appearance and longevity. Covering your furniture helps preserve its condition and structural integrity.

Outdoor furniture covers are not damage-proof, so following care and maintenance guidelines remains essential. We suggest regular inspection and timely replacement of worn covers. To protect and nourish timber, apply natural beeswax periodically to help repel moisture and maintain its character.

The Cover Company offers premium waterproof covers, tailored to fit Uniqwa’s outdoor range. These help shield your pieces from the harsh Australian climate.
