The Uniqwa redesign of the classic, antique three-tiered Chinese kitchen cupboard. Perfectly suited for the modern home, reproduced with recognition of traditional craftsmanship.

This stunning Bamboo cabinet features a reclaimed elmwood frame; sourced from old farmhouses and bleached to create a soft, light and raw wood tone finish.

The curved bamboo slat door design embraces traditional craftsmanship and features original wood hinge joinery, which connects the frame and door without the use of modern metal hinges. Woodworkers around the world have used this technique for thousands of years. This type of joint is both simple and strong.

Please note that this cabinet is handmade from vintage elm and therefore shows signs of wear and tear, marks, inconsistencies and imperfections. We consider this part of their charm and the natural beauty of the wood. These are not seen as faults or flaws but rather signs of their history and appeal.

Weather events such as high humidity and dampness, especially after periods of high rainfall, commonly cause mildew and mould to grow on the surface of wood.

While we favour the look of raw sanded wood, coating wood pieces with a wood sealer/water repellent product such as varnish or lacquer can help to make mould easier to remove from the surface or keep it from growing.

A coated product will cause moisture to bead up and run off the surface instead of penetrating and allowing mould spores and mildew to grow. Please note that adding a coating to the product will change the look and feel of the wood.

If you prefer to retain the original raw look that we favour and mould does appear, using a mould remover as soon as possible after the mould develops is advised to clean and maintain your product.

Should the mould have sunken roots into the wood, light sanding with fine sandpaper may become necessary to restore your piece.

Humidity causes mould to grow. Limited airflow and moisture create a microclimate for mould to develop. In some cases, mould will begin growing on furniture, clothing and other contents within the home.
In instances when this occurs, it is not an inherent fault of the furniture, clothing and other contents; rather, humidity or dampness in the air can supply enough moisture for mould growth on any surface. Mould can occur anywhere, and humid climates provide the optimal conditions for the fungi to grow and thrive on any surface.

Every Uniqwa piece has a story…

Our collections are mostly individually hand-made pieces. As most of our products are made from natural materials, texture, colour, and pattern may vary from piece to piece. Reclaimed timbers, naturally weathered materials and off-cuts otherwise discarded are frequently part of Uniqwa design features.

Natural splitting, cracking, and loss of natural oils may occur and form part of the characteristics and beauty of Uniqwa products. These are not viewed as imperfections or faults but as part of timber's natural life and beauty.

We believe the result of using natural materials and hand-crafted elements is a testament to the unique qualities found in materials originating from nature.

As every monitor displays different colour tones, the colour of pictures on our website and social media cannot be taken as a true colour indication of the actual products. Some product tones may appear to vary from catalogue or website images.
