Inside Ophira

Inside Ophira

A Palm Beach residence where rich textures, thoughtful materiality and timeless design redefine coastal living.

Not every coastal home needs to be white

For decades, Australian beachfront interiors have been defined by crisp whites, pale timbers and endless shades of blue. But perched above the coastline at Palm Beach, Ophira confidently challenges that expectation.

Designed by Gold Coast interior studio Village Stores, this remarkable residence embraces something altogether more layered. Rich textures replace polished surfaces. Earthy tones soften the ocean outlook. Every material invites touch, while every room encourages you to slow down.

Rather than competing with its spectacular location, the interiors create a quiet conversation with it.

It is a home that feels timeless from the moment you arrive.

Designing beyond the expected

Ophira was conceived as a collection of private residences, with one apartment occupying each level. The architecture itself blurs the distinction between indoors and outdoors through generous openings, natural materials and a restrained palette.

For Village Stores Interior Stylist Jye Galbraith, the client's vision immediately stood apart.

"The architecture and material palette were designed to blur the line between indoors and out, celebrating tactile, natural finishes that invite you to slow down and connect with the space."

What made the project particularly memorable was the willingness to move away from convention.

"The client wanted to move away from the typical light, bright coastal aesthetic. Instead, they embraced mood, depth and rich textures, creating a home with warmth, drama and a strong sense of individuality."

The result is a home that feels sophisticated without feeling formal, luxurious without excess.

Designing for everyday living

While Ophira is visually striking, every decision was grounded in functionality.

The furniture was carefully selected to support the way the family lives, entertains and connects throughout the day.

"From the beginning, this project was about balancing atmosphere with functionality."

One of the strongest examples of this philosophy is the dining space.

The Malfi Dining Chairs introduce luxurious velvet while their swivel functionality allows family and guests to naturally transition between conversation, dining and the uninterrupted coastal outlook.

"We wanted the home to feel calm, welcoming and effortlessly liveable."

It's a reminder that thoughtful design isn't simply about appearance. It's about improving how a space feels to inhabit.

Furniture that becomes part of the architecture

Throughout Ophira, furniture is never treated as decoration.

Instead, each piece contributes to the architecture of the home itself, reinforcing the rhythm, softness and material language established throughout the interiors.

Village selected several signature Uniqwa Collections pieces to anchor the project, including the Nikka Oversized Lounger, Sabora Swivel Chair and Malfi Dining Chair.

Together, they introduce movement, comfort and sculptural form while reinforcing the home's layered palette.

"Their swivel functionality was a major drawcard. Combined with the richness of the velvet finishes, they introduced softness, movement and a sense of understated luxury that perfectly complemented the home's moodier direction."

Every selection feels intentional.

Nothing feels overdesigned.

The power of materiality

Materiality has long been central to both Village Stores and Uniqwa Collections.

Rather than relying on colour trends, both brands share a belief that authentic materials age beautifully, creating homes that become richer over time.

For Jye, texture is what gives an interior emotional depth.

"There's a beautiful harmony in the balance between new and old, refined and rustic."

"Texture creates depth and emotion in a space in a way colour alone simply can't."

Throughout Ophira, buffalo leather, velvet, natural stone, handcrafted timber and artisan finishes quietly layer together, creating warmth without visual noise.

It's a philosophy that allows hero pieces, artwork and architecture to breathe while the overall home remains calm and cohesive.

Designed to endure

When asked what he hopes the owners experience every day, Jye's answer perfectly captures the success of the project.

"Exactly what they envisioned from the beginning. A home that feels comfortable, grounded and welcoming. A place where family can come together, where everyday moments feel special, and where the spaces genuinely support the way they live."

Perhaps that's why Ophira feels so enduring.

It doesn't chase trends.

It doesn't rely on statement moments.

Instead, it quietly celebrates craftsmanship, authenticity and thoughtful design.

Five Minutes with Jye Galbraith

Interior Stylist at VILLAGE

What advice would you give someone designing a timeless coastal home?

"Don't feel confined by the traditional coastal palette. Be eclectic with your selections and always work with physical material and fabric samples to ensure they complement the architectural finishes of the home. Most importantly, avoid designing around trends. Invest in quality materials and pieces that tell a story."

Village Stores has specified Uniqwa Collections across many projects. What keeps bringing you back?

"Village has always celebrated handcrafted pieces and the beauty found in natural imperfections. We've built our philosophy around layering old with new, embracing character, craftsmanship and authenticity. Uniqwa shares that same appreciation for materiality and artisan design, and that alignment has made the partnership feel incredibly natural."

Favourite material?

"Buffalo leather, Desert Haze velvet and Dark Roast papier mâché."

Coffee or wine during installs?

"Coffee. Most installs begin first thing in the morning. Wine is reserved for celebrating once the final cushion is in place.
