The exquisite Hamali Block collection is meticulously handcrafted from reclaimed teak, thoughtfully salvaged from aged Javanese structures that have gracefully weathered the test of time and the elements.

The result is a unique piece that combines the warmth and character of beautifully aged teak with a modern style.

The charred Hamali Block Coffee Table has a Shou Sugi Ban finish, an ancient Japanese exterior finishing technique which preserves wood by charring it with fire. The technique also achieves a natural black finish without any of the chemicals common timber stains contain.

The reclaimed teak used in this creation may exhibit subtle traces of its past life, including borer markings, bearing witness to its journey through the years. Each piece showcases the remarkable story of reclaimed teak, characterised by distinct markings and an array of captivating colour tones. These characteristics serve as a testament to the authenticity and allure of this exceptional timber.

Teak is highly resistant to outdoor conditions, bugs, and moisture retention and offers incredible benefits over other natural materials.

The natural tendency for teak is to patina beautifully into a silvery-grey look, which develops over time in natural conditions, including sunlight and ambient moisture.

The benefits of teak wood allow it to weather gracefully but also maintain its integrity so as not to degrade like other hardwoods and softwoods.

The Hamali Block Coffee Table is suitable for an outdoor undercover space.

Characteristics

Shou Sugi Ban is a traditional Japanese wood preservation method that involves charring the timber surface to enhance durability and create a distinctive, textured aesthetic. The finish may be sealed with oil or a protective coating to maintain structure and deepen its visual impact.

Common Issues or Risks

The charred surface, while durable, can be sensitive to abrasion, moisture, and harsh cleaners. Prolonged sun exposure or excessive rubbing may fade or wear down the finish. Over time, a natural patina and soft wear marks may develop, contributing to the unique character of the piece.

Preventative Care

Keep furniture in stable indoor environments away from direct sunlight and moisture. Use coasters, placemats, and protective pads to shield against heat, spills, and scratches. Avoid placing sharp or heavy objects directly on the surface, and always lift when moving items.

Cleaning Instructions

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth to maintain the textured surface. For light cleaning, use a damp cloth with water only-avoid excess moisture and always dry thoroughly. Blot any spills immediately with a soft, dry cloth; do not rub, as this may wear the finish.

Cautions / What to Avoid

Avoid soaking, abrasive pads, or harsh chemical cleaners, which can damage the charred layer or strip protective treatments. Do not expose to direct sun or humidity extremes for extended periods. Re-oil or reseal periodically, depending on the original finish, to maintain colour depth and surface integrity.
